Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you are enjoying this holiday break!
We have two different important announcements for the entire band program:
Booster Meeting Postponed
Due to some unavoidable conflicts, the Band Booster meeting scheduled for this Tuesday has been moved to Tuesday, December 10th at ,7 pm in the band room. All band parents are encouraged to attend, as important information is decided and given out each month.
Solo/Ensemble Forms Due
Entry forms for the Solo/Ensemble Contest are due this Monday December 2,with all relevant monies attached. Solos cost $13, and Ensembles cost $7 per person. All students in grades 7-12th band classes are required to perform at this festival, and it is optional for 6th grade students.
One of the most valuable ways to increase musicianship within a student is through the preparation of a solo or small group piece. The Indiana State School Music Association provides a venue for just such preparation, and each our our school sends over 100 students to participate!
The sign-up forms have been handed out to each student on Tuesday, November 19. Here's what you need to know:
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the band office.
All students signed up for 2nd term high school concert band are also a part of our pep band, and need to have a pep band shirt for our performances. Students with shirts from last year may continue to wear them this year. Students who need new shirts will need to give their shirt size to Mr. Sutton on Friday for the order.
Pep Band shirts can be ordered from the band office for $10. Checks will be made out to Bremen Band.
I know it sometimes gets tiresome, but it is necessary. My friends, so many of you have volunteered, and I thank you for it! It is really appreciated.
We have only a few weeks left in the Notre Dame volunteer season, and we have another big weekend this weekend.
This Friday, as of this writing, we still need 5 more volunteers. On Saturday, we need 6 more volunteers. Are you 16 years old or older and can help? We can even drive you up and back. Come be a part of the fun! Click the button below for more information and to sign up.
Hello there! We're coming up on the end of another week in the band world, and this weekend we find ourselves committed to providing volunteers once again for a Notre Dame concession stand.
This Friday (5 pm - midnight) we need 3 more volunteers, and on Saturday (4:00 pm - 11:00 pm) we need 11 more volunteers. We made the commitment to Notre Dame to provide these volunteers based on band participation in previous years, and now we need you to step up.
If you are 16 or older and have either of those evenings free, please click on the buttons below to get complete information and to sign up.
Thank you SO MUCH for your help!
We have several announcements for different bands today, and it is a little long. Feel free to skip over the announcements that do not apply to your child. The beginning of each announcement is highlighted in red.
First Concert- All Bands
Our first concert is almost upon us! Here's what you need to know to properly prepare your child for their first concert experience.
Make sure your schedule is clear. The concert is on November 4th, at 7:00. Students will be expected to be there and ready to play 45 minutes early, and stay for the entire concert. Please review the attendance expectations within the handbook, and remember that your child’s grade is heavily influenced by a missed performance.
Be sure your child is properly dressed. MS Students should be wearing their band shirt, tan khakis (not Capri pants) with no carpenter pockets, long black socks and completely black shoes. HS Students should be wearing black dress slacks or ankle length black skirt, a white button-up dress shirt, and black shoes. HS students with the previous dresses or tuxedos may continue to wear them.
6th grade students and transfer students: band shirts have been ordered today and every student who has paid $15 for the shirt will receive their shirts before the concert at school.
For complete details on what to wear, please check the handbook for your child in the links above this announcement.
Check that your child has all their music and required equipment for their instrument. Woodwind players should have a minimum of two reeds. Instruments should be kept in good repair.
Support your child. These concerts represent the culmination of 10 weeks of hard work by your child. Hours of practice both inside and outside of class went into each note, and this is your child’s chance to show you what he or she has learned. I am very proud of what your children have accomplished over the last several weeks, and so are they!
Congratulations- HS Band
Congratulations to the following students for their acceptance into District Honor Band! Acceptance into the Honor Band is, well, an honor, and each of these students certainly deserve this recognition. Honor Band students will represent our school and participate in a large extra band concert on November 17th with other honor band winners from the entire northern Indiana region.

Cheese and Sausage- All Bands
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s cheese and sausage fundraiser. All together, 85% of our band program sold at least one item, and some sold as many as 36! This hard work by you and your child goes a long ways towards many different band costs, such as repair costs, stands, new music, equipment, contest fees, organizational costs, and more. Without your help, this band program would not exist.
We’re about to enter phase two of the event: collecting the money. (Please cue the menacing music here!) All items will arrive on October 23, and must be picked up before the end of that day by your student or yourself by 4 pm. You will be responsible for taking the individual orders that you collected back to your customers and collecting their money. All money will be due by Wednesday, October 30th. Money can be turned in with one or a combination of these two methods.
Smart Music- 6th Grade Band
In the second quarter, students in 6th grade band will be expected to perform an assignment on Smart Music each week.
As we have had some technical glitches with SmartMusic on the Ipad that have not been completely ironed out, please read the following for information:
I will continue to work with both SmartMusic and our tech department at Bremen Public Schools to try to resolve all issues currently being experienced.

We once again find ourselves short a handful of volunteers for our Notre Dame concession stand this weekend.
We need a LOT of volunteers to sign up over the next 48 hours. After you sign up, could you go find a friend to sign up with you?
We had a lot of fun last week-- come join us again!
For details about what you need to do as well as a link to sign up, just click on the button below.

Kimberly Kauffman (Clarinet)
Alyssa Bailey (Flute)
Tobias Hendrix (Flute)
Hannah Smeltzer (Flute)
Seth Stine (Tuba)
Branden Martin (Baritone)
Brooke Kertei (Baritone)
These students will represent Bremen Middle School at the All-Region Honor Band concert at LaSalle Academy on Sunday, November 24th, along with 120 students from 29 middle schools across northern Indiana.
Good day! It is now 8:55 am, and in about 7.5 hours volunteers will be meeting tonight at the Bremen Auditorium to go up to Notre Dame and work at a concession stand for a hockey game. In return for running the stand for the evening, Notre Dame will donate a portion of the profits to our Bremen instrumental music program.
With 7 hours to go, unfortunately we still need 9 more volunteers (14 total). If you are 16 years old or older and free this evening, please consider helping. Volunteers need to wear black pants (not jeans) and a white T-shirt. Notre Dame will provide polos and hats to wear at the location.
We will meet at 4:30 pm here at the school auditorium, and we should return by approximately 11:30 pm. Food will be provided for dinner, and we will have a great time while helping our school instrumental program.
If you are willing to help, please simply reply to this email, or go to the following website to sign up:
In advance, I wish to thank all of you that are willing to help. It is greatly appreciated.
