Two Bremen Students Perform Lord of the Rings music with the South Bend Youth Symphony

On Sunday March 17th, two Bremen Emerald Alliance students performed with the South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestra (SBYSO) and the Penn Choir program at Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

The students-- Josh Szpakowski (junior, tuba) and Julianne Lawmaster (junior, flute) joined the SBYSO through an audition process, and have been rehearsing for this special concert for several months.

The SBYSO and the Penn Choirs performed for a sold out crowd on Sunday, featuring the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th movements of Howard Shore's monumental work, "The Lord of the Rings Symphony." Music from both the Two Towers and Return of the King were featured.

The orchestra also performed "Catcerto" by Mindaugus Piecaitis, a cute four minute work featuring a YouTube video of a cat playing the piano, accompanied by the orchestra.

The SBYSO's (and our Bremen students') next performance will be at 4 pm on Sunday, May 5th at John Adams High School, and will feature the principal clarinet player from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, John Bruce Yeh.
